Applications, Dimensions, and Uses of Rivet Nuts

First Created by BF Goodrich in the 1930s, A rivet nut is a type of nut that is installed into a prepared hole in a piece of sheet metal and secured prior to assembly of a bolt. It is a kind of threaded insert. A special installation tool is required to fix the nuts into the prepared hole. The body of the rivet nut is formed on the blindside.

What are Rivet Nuts Used For and what are its features?
Rivet nuts are easy-to-installed. However, because of their wide grip range, rivet nuts can be installed into a variety of material thicknesses.

1. Picking Up the right nuts.

Depending on your application and how to use this nut is the biggest concern, because rivet nuts available is available in two types: The first nut is designed to form a bulge on the application’s blindside as the screw, pin, or bolt is tightened. The second is pulled into a sleeve and thus doesn’t bulge like another type. Before picking up the right nuts here are some features and styles which needs to be considered

·         Shape: One of the most important features for choosing and selecting almost anything is the shape. Rivet nuts come in square, hexagonal, and in round cylindrical style. Each style of this nut is meant to keep the fastener from turning at high torque levels, especially in softer materials.

·         Thick flange: The Thick Flange features provide extra spacing and push-out strength.

·         Wide front-side flange: While installing rivet nuts the wide front-side flange offers a large load-bearing surface to both reinforce the hole and keep the rivet nut from being pushed through.

·         Open or closed: Rivet nuts come in both open- and closed-end styles, with the latter preventing water and dust getting into the assembly, such as with an automotive installation.
·         Thin or thick wall: If you’re not sure what kind of rivet nut you need for your application, seek out a fastener expert so all necessary materials required are met.

2. Use and Application in different materials.

Rivet nuts are easy-for-installing, that provides strong load-bearing threads into weak or thin gauge materials such as castings, housings, panels, tubes, and extrusions. One of the advantages of Rivet is that, because of its wide grip, rivet nuts can be installed into a variety of materials.

3. More practical than other fasteners.
Made from different components like aluminum, stainless steel, steel, brass, and Monel, rivet nuts offer a variety of benefits over bolts, tapping screws, and inserts. In fact, rivet nuts are not exposed to heat, unlike other fasteners such as weld nuts who get corroded easily and quickly. However, installing rivet nuts is just more practical in comparison to other available fasteners.
4. Perfect for your industry and application.

Rivet Nuts are designed to be automated and is used widely throughout the industry to attach items to dashboards. Rivet nuts advantages include that this nut is perfect for every stage of production because it requires no reworking as the nut can be inserted when the workpiece is coated or painted.
