HEX NUTS AND ITS SPECIFICATION

v  What are Hex Nuts?

One of the most common nuts available are the Hex nuts that are used with anchors, bolts, screws, studs or any other fastener which has machine screw threads. This Nuts are widely used for industrial and commercial use. Hex, as the name suggests, is short-form off Hexagon. Hex nuts have six sides in the shape of a Hexagon. Hex Full Nuts, Finished Hex Nuts are some of the names given to Hex Nuts.

Hex Nuts are required for fastening purpose. Though, the design of a hex nuts is simple but they are created to deliver high end efficiency and Performance.

The size of hex Nuts, typically varies from ¼” to about 2 ½” and are available in different Strength Grades. The Grades are given on the basis of Strength and cost of the nuts.  Stainless steel hex nuts and bolts/screws used together are susceptible to thread galling and seizing. While it may not be completely preventable, it can be substantially reduced. A thread lubricant is the most effective method. Alternatively, stainless steel alloys having different hardnesses—like a 316 nut and a 304 bolt—have less tendency to gall.

If you need a thinner nut, choose a jam nut. For smaller sizes—diameter, width and thickness—look to machine screw nuts. For a wider and thicker nut, consider a heavy hex nut.

v  What are Nuts Made From?
Metal is the most common material used for making a nut. Other components include Metals, Aluminum, Brass that are used for making a hardware nut. Well, Aluminum Nuts are light in weight and is easy to manufacturer, whereas Brass nuts are strong, corrosion resistant and is Conductive as well.

v  How is Hex Nuts Measured?
Place the end of a measuring tape on one of the flat sides of the nut's outer perimeter. Stretch the tape measure across the nut's diameter to the flat-side directly across from the one you’re pulling from. If the nut is metric, count the number of lines on the tape measure to find the measurement.
