AN OVERVIEW OF FLANGE NUTS

A flange nut is a type of nut which has a wide flange at one end which acts as an integrated washer. Made up of hardened steel and coated zinc, flange Nuts are used for a variety of applications, depending on the style purchased and has a hexagonal type shaped. To avoid damage to the part, this nut distributes the pressure of nut over the part being secured.

In simple words, “Flange nuts” are a type of fastener with a wide bottom circular flange. Their “washer like” base helps in distributing the load pressure of the nut uniformly over a large surface area. The shape of flange locknuts is hexagonal and is used in assembly lines where workers have to speed up the work process.

Flange Nut provides a locking action that may be serrated. For rotating the nut in a proper direction, the serrated flange nuts are angled in a proper manner that would loosen the nut. The serrations help in preventing the vibration of the nut from moving the fastener, thus maintaining the holding power of nut. For creating a stable structure, flange nuts sometimes use a swivel flange (used in joining wood and plastic). Also termed serrated face nuts, spin lock or serrated tooth nuts, this type of fastener provides more resistance to vibration. As the nut is tightened onto the joint, the mating surface is scored by those serrations and a locking fit is achieved.
Advantages of Flange Nuts
·         Flange Nuts can be adjusted and removed after installation.
·         Flange nuts can be used for a limited number of times because the prevailing torque declines each time it is used.
·         Other Advantage of Flange nuts is that this nut works perfectly fine in case of diminishing preload by using their remaining rotation resistance
Disadvantage of Flange Nuts
·         These types of Nuts are not considered suitable for long threaded assemblies because when the nut travels along the threads, it damages the nut’s locking feature.

·         Other Disadvantage of Flange nut is that it uses distortion to provide a tight fit.
·         Risk of Corrosion is high when painted or coated.

Designs and Dimensions of Flange Nuts

Stainless Steel Flange Nuts mainly has a wide variety of designs. Depending on the use of the nut the shape and other features are designed. The purpose of these designs is that the nuts are useful for the bolts that will be used to tighten them. For instance, in some cases the square nuts are used to tighten the parts with the square bolts. Each nuts fastener has a different specification and design. Each nuts fastener also has a different use for which they are designed. Such as Hex Nuts, it has a shape designed in the shape of a 'Hex' from which its name derives.
